President John Dramani Mahama, has launched a manual that will assist importers and exporters to electronically document Customs processes on Friday, 30 September, 2016 at the Customs Headquarters in Accra. He launched the manual during the first anniversary celebration of the Ghana National Single Window (GNSW) project that automates and simplifies Customs classification, valuation and risk management functions.

The president commended all stakeholders and partners for the successful implementation of the system, which he said has begun to show good results. He lauded the project’s contribution to a 57 per cent rate increase in the processing of goods, as well as 14.8 per cent increase in Customs revenue in the first year of operation. He described the partnership between West Blue and the Customs Division of the GRA as an outstanding partnership which has worked well in the past one year in spite of the earlier misconceptions about the project in the media.

The Commissioner-General of GRA, Mr. George Blankson described the anniversary of GNSW as an important milestone in Customs modernization, adding that the project remained a key component in enhancing revenue mobilization efforts. He said the decision to adopt that the Single Window has helped Ghana Customs to join world-wide Customs organizations that comply with best practice as required by WCO and WTO protocols.

The Minister of Finance, Mr. Seth Terkper, commended the Ghana Revenue Authority and its partners West Blue Consulting, for their coordination in the successful implementation of the National Single Window System. The Deputy Minister of Transport, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce, Alhaji Asoma Banda and other dignitaries were impressed with the success and achievements made through the Single Window project.

Awards of merit were presented to the President and Mr. Wallace Akondor, former Commissioner of GRA Customs Division, Fredrick Gavor, Deputy Commissioner Operations of Customs Division and Yaw Boakye  Agyemang, officer- in- charge of the Customs Technical Services Bureau for their instrumentality in setting up the Ghana National Single Window, which has improved Customs procedures tremendously and increased government revenues.
