Tax and Good Governance Week
“Tax and Good Governance Week” programme is being spearheaded by the Ministry of Finance and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The week-long programme is geared towards enhancing tax compliance, with a focus on the filing of income tax returns and also their compliance measures being undertaken by the Ghana Revenue Authority.
The programme would be launched on Friday 6th April, 2018 at the forecourt of GRA Head Office. The theme for the programme is, “Filing your Tax Returns, your Civic Responsibility”. H.E. the Vice-President is expected to grace the occasion and file his tax returns during the launch. The launch will be preceded by a one-week media engagement. Senior Government officials including Regional Ministers, District Chief Executives, Heads of Public Institutions and other dignitaries are encouraged to actively participate in the event.
As part of the efforts to increase revenue, GRA in 2017 launched a National Tax Campaign to sensitize the populace, especially eligible taxpayers, on the need for voluntary compliance in honoring their tax obligations to the state.
WHY THE NEED TO FILE INCOME TAX RETURNS
The Incomes Tax Act, 2015 (Act 896) and the Revenue Administration Act, 2016 (Act 915) compel individuals and entities to file their income tax returns by the end of April every year.
The Tax and Governance Week Programme being organised this year is therefore designed among other things, to bring to the attention of the citizenry this legal obligation.
