Integrated Tax Administration System - ITAS FAQs

 

Introduction

As part of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)’s 4th Strategic Plan transformative drive, the authority has introduced ITAS (Integrated Tax Administration System) to enhance Tax administration.
ITAS is a Tax Administration System that provides end to end services and transactions for tax. This ITAS is a comprehensive digital platform designed to integrate key tax administration processes, including taxpayer registration, return filing, payment processing, compliance management, and data analytics.

The below FAQs are targeted at taxpayers and authorized tax representatives/consultants.

 

1. What is the ITAS (Integrated Tax Administration System)?

It is a system that is meant to improve taxpayers experience in registration, filing returns, payments, E-services and many other more that align with modern tax administration.
 

2. Why ITAS?

ITAS makes tax services faster, simpler, more transparent and secure. It reduces paperwork and allows taxpayers to do access our services online without visiting a GRA office.

 

3. How do I access ITAS?

• The GRA Website: gra.gov.gh
• The ETAX web portal: www.etax.gra.gov.gh

 

4. What do I need before I activate my account on the Taxpayers’ Portal or App?

To Sign Up, you will need:
• Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)/Ghana Card PIN
• Contact Information (Mobile number/ Email address used to register with GRA/National Identification Authority)

 

5. How do I Activate my Account on the Taxpayers’ Portal or App?

• Go to www.etax.gra.gov.gh and click on Account Activation.
• Choose your user type (Note: you must first activate your Taxpayer Account before you can activate a Taxpayer Consultant Account)
• Enter your TIN/Ghana Card PIN
• Enter the numbers you see in the CAPTCHA image
• Click on Proceed
• Select if you want your username to be the same as your TIN/Ghana Card PIN
• Verify your mobile number/Email address (Note: Click on ‘Update Contact Details’ to update if you want to change what is shown.)
• Enter the OTP sent to your confirmed mobile number/ email address.
• Create a password to complete the Activation process.
• Once account activation is successful, you will be redirected to the login page.
• Login to the main portal with registered account details (Username and password)
*You only need to Activate your account once

 

6. Why do I need to Update my Profile on the Account?

Profile update is mandatory for new accounts and ensures the information GRA has on you/your business is accurate and up to date.

 

7. What do I do when I forget my password?

Click on FORGOT YOUR PASSWORD? On the Login page and follow the prompts to reset your password. You will need to provide your TIN/Ghana Card PIN and a one-time password/code will be sent to the phone number associated with your account.
 

8. If I am already registered on the GRA Taxpayer’s Portal, do I still need to re-register on the ITAS?

Your account will automatically be onboarded from the GRA Taxpayer’s Portal but you must Activate the Account and set a Username and Password.

 

9. Will there be automatic migration of my Tax records?

Yes, all your records will be migrated unto the new ITAS Portal including your payment and filing history.

 

10. Is the portal available all the time?

Yes. The portal will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, except during planned maintenance.

 

11. Will I still use my TIN / Ghana Card Pin?

Yes. Your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)/ Ghana Card Pin remains your main identification number.

 

12. Can I register for more than one tax type?

Yes. You can register for all tax types including VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, and other relevant tax types.

 

13. Can I file my tax returns online?

Yes. All filing should be done on the ETAX web portal; www.etax.gra.gov.gh

 

14. Will I get reminders before my due date?

Yes. ITAS will send reminders to help you remember when to file your returns.

 

15. Will some returns be pre-filled for me?

Yes. ITAS will pre-fill parts of your return to make filing easier. You will still need to review before submitting.

 

16. What happens if I don’t file on time?

ITAS will identify late returns and apply penalties as required by law.

 

17. Can I attach documents to my return?

Yes. Where required you can upload supporting documents such as PDFs or CSV files.

 

18. Will I receive confirmation after filing?

Yes. You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of returns filed.

 

19. Can I pay my taxes online?

Yes. All payments are initiated on the ITAS portal.
Payments can be done via the Ghana.gov payment platform using Mobile Money, Bank Card, *222# or by visiting the nearest bank.

 

20. How long will it take for my account on the ITAS Portal to be credited after payment?

• When you pay with Mobile Money, Cash, direct bank transfer, Visa Card, etc. your tax account will be credited instantly.
• However, when you pay via third-party cheque it should take a maximum of three (3) working days to reflect in your tax account.

 

21. Will interest be calculated automatically?

Yes. ITAS will automatically calculate interest for late payment where applicable.

 

22. Can I see my outstanding liabilities and payment history?

Yes. ITAS allows you to view what you owe, what you’ve paid, and your full tax history.

 

23. Is my information safe?

Yes. GRA has put security measures in place to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of your data. We comply with industry standard requirements such as the Data Protection Act.

 

24. Can a tax representative/consultant act on behalf of a taxpayer?

Yes. Tax representatives/consultants can act on your behalf, once properly authorized by you. You can grant or revoke access to a representative through the portal.
