Profile of the New Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority – Anthony Kwasi Sarpong
Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong was appointed the Commissioner- General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on 21st January, 2025. His appointment is expected to come with renewed transformation and innovation to the GRA.
Educational Background:
Mr. Sarpong holds an MSc in Financial Risk Management from London Metropolitan University, UK; a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Manchester, UK; and a First Class Honours in Business Administration (Accounting option) from the University of Ghana.
In addition, he holds a professional certificate in Taxation from the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Ghana and a certificate in investment and securities from the Ghana Stock Exchange.
Leadership:
He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG); Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Ghana Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Advisors (GARIA).
He is also a member of the University of Ghana Business School’s Advisory Board, Vice President of STOBA, Chairman of Mary Mother of Good Counsel Catholic Parish (MMGCCP) Education Endowment Fund and the Ag. Chairman of ENACTUS, Ghana.
Professional Career:
Anthony Kwasi Sarpong joined Kleinfeld Peat Marwick and Goerler (KPMG) as a Trainee Accountant in the year 1997 and rose through the ranks to become a Senior Partner in 2019. His core function as the Senior Partner included giving strategic direction and managing operations to ensure the delivery of key corporate objectives.
Mr. Sarpong is a Chartered Accountant with over 21 years of experience in audit and advisory services across a number of sectors including Financial Services; Consumer and Industrial Markets (CIM); and Telecom, Media and Technology, and has led some of the firm’s largest and complex cross-functional engagements.
Until his appointment as the Senior Partner of KPMG in June 2019, Mr. Sarpong was a Partner and Head of Audit. He doubled as the sector lead for KPMG’s Financial Services line of business and was also the Risk Management Partner. Mr. Sarpong was a Key Speaker on KPMG’s Leadership Series.
He is an affable and a solution focused individual who believes in leadership and empowerment as means to identify, develop and unleash the potential of people.
